Today's Harvest - One Spoonful of Vegetables

Each day I get a little bite of vegetables from my garden. Today it was a handful of peas and a tiny carrot.

Hey Stacey,

I just stumbled onto your blog while searching for images on "chili root rot" on Google - it found your page on the pot toes that prevent waterlogging and root rot. I live in New Delhi, India in an apartment and do a bit of container gardening - unfortunately one of of my chili plants just died from contracting root rot due to the extreme hot and humid weather we're having (40 degrees Celcius, 75% humidity average, but NO RAIN) since March this year.

Anyway, not to take up much time - your garden and your veggies are absolutely fabulous. I know what a thrill having even two or three own chillies or tomatoes are, so this was great to see. The peas are perfect!

I also like the effort you've put into your blog, with the high quality photos and the step by step recipes. Your passion in the project shines through, and it's been a pleasure to visit.

BTW, the dal curry recipe looks really well executed (as per the photos). In India we call it only dal - a curry according to us is the gravy in which dishes, especially non-vegetarian ones, are cooked, like a 'chicken curry' or 'fish curry'). Anyway, that's just irrelevant info - I was just quite thrilled to see the recipe on your page and thought would mention this.

Take care, and best wishes!

GamrGrl - Thanks for the great compliments about the blog - that was really nice! I do enjoy it a lot, and spend quite a bit of time getting it just right.

About your chili plants - it sounds like the weather has been challenging. My only suggestions would be to make sure the drainage in your pot is really good by adding holes in the sides or bottom of the pot, and maybe adding some perlite (do you have that?) or small pebbles to your soil. The pot toes, of course, are just a way to keep the pot off the ground so it will drain.

I've been to South India with my husband, but never New Delhi. We would love to go, but maybe not during the hot weather! Thanks for your insight into my dal recipe - in the future I'll probably be posting more Indian recipes, so make sure you check it out!

It was great to hear from you and good luck with your plants and the weather!
